Kickstarter Planned for Resident Evil 3 Board Game

Can’t get enough of Resident Evil 3? Well, we’ve got good news for you! Sure, the remake of the popular survival horror game was released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows on April 3, 2020, and it comes bundled with the online multiplayer experience Resident Evil: Resistance. But wait — there’s more!

Steamforged Games, who previously collaborated with developer Capcom on the Resident Evil 2 board game which was released in 2019, has announced that Resident Evil 3 will also be receiving a tabletop adaptation. The game will be funded on Kickstarter, with the campaign officially beginning on April 28, 2020.

The official release date for the game itself remains unknown, but presumably will be sometime after the Kickstarter campaign is successfully funded.

Fans of the Resident Evil series will be able to support the game by pledging any amount of money once the campaign launches. In addition, Steamforged has announced that, if the campaign gets over 2500 followers, they will release an exclusive miniature of series mainstay Jill Valentine rocking some stylish biker gear. Who knows what other exciting perks and bonuses might be waiting after the fundraiser officially kicks off?

The game will feature a campaign mode with an overarching storyline inspired by that of Resident Evil 3. It will star Jill alongside mercenary Carlos Oliviera. Steamforged has teased that the campaign will feature over 19 hours of gameplay. Additionally, a series of one-shot scenarios will be available for those players looking for a single-session experience.

Resident Evil 3: The Board Game will retain a number the mechanics for which its Resident Evil-2 based predecessor was praised. In particular, the “Tension Deck” will add randomized dangers and terrors throughout the game, in order to create the tense “survival horror” atmosphere closely associated with the Resident Evil franchise. What horrors might await us in that deadly deck? We’re not sure — Steamforged is keeping that information firmly under their hat!
