The Last Of Us Part I Confirmed For PS5 and PC

Naughty Dog has confirmed that The Last Of Us remake, officially titled The Last Of Us Part I, is coming to PS5 on September 2nd, 2022, as announced during  Summer Game Fest 2022A PC version is also in development at Naughty Dog. The new iteration, headed up by Naughty Dog’s Matthew Gallant and Shaun Escayg, has been described as a “ground-up remake,” with studio Co-President and original director Neil Druckmann describing it as “the definitive version of the first game that [isn’t] encumbered by any technology.”

Druckmann kept his explanation short and sweet as the studio unveiled the remake for the first time. With everything exclusively captured on the PS5, the trailer combines gameplay and cinematic footage.

Druckmann explained a process in which they could take the original facial animation and “re-target” the footage to create a higher visual fidelity. The art director behind The Last Of Us, he said, worked on “everything from the ground-up.”

The revisions to The Last Of Us Part I will not be strictly limited to the game’s notably improved visual fidelity. Druckmann confirms the game will introduce brand-new AI, combat mechanics, and framerates. “When you see it in motion, it’s really night and day from what it used to be,” he continues. “Everything we’ve learnt on Uncharted 4 and The Last Of Us Part II, we applied to this, again to give this definitive version.”

The Last Of Us was released on the PS3 on June 14th, 2013, with the PS4 Remastered version arriving one year later on July 29th, 2014. Naughty Dog released the sequel, The Last Of Us Part II, on June 19th, 2020. Now we can add September 2nd, 2022, as another Last of Us release date to our diaries.
