It’s been quite some time since we last received a new Age of Empires game, with the last installment to the series, Age of Empires IV, releasing back in 2021. However, the developers of the project, World’s Edge and TiMi Studio Group have confirmed that a new Age of Empires game is in the works with the release of a brand-new trailer for Age of Empires Mobile. This new entry will be released sometime later this year and will be adding an interesting new twist to the series. While fans may be hesitant about a Age of Empires mobile release, this isn’t the series’ first venture onto mobile devices, and the developers have confirmed that their objective is to give players an experience that aims to be as close to the mainline experience as possible. This should put players at ease, especially when you consider World’s Edge was the same team that brought us Age of Empires IV and has been overseeing the Age of Empires franchise as a part of Xbox Game Studios since 2019.

In the first gameplay trailer for Age of Empires Mobile, we get to see the different civilizations that the players will get to rule over; these are the French, Byzantine, Romans, and Chinese empires. However, the developers have confirmed that this new entry will be adding a new “twist” to the series and that is that they will get to grow and expand their empires along with many great historical figures such as Hannibal, Charlemagne, Alexander the Great, or Barbarossa. Not only that, but players will also get to play through a vast world filled with both resources and dynamic battlefields while facing off against other players from around the world.
If you’re a fan of Age of Empires, you’ll be glad to know that pre-registrations are open for Android and Apple users. Fans are already showing their love for what might be a great revival of a classic series since there are already well over 100 000 pre-registrations and to sweeten the deal, there are extra perks in the form of rewards like extra in-game resources. The developers have also promised extra rewards when certain milestones are reached on the sign-ups, including a special character frame, the hero Cleopatra, and even a surprise reward. Age of Empires Mobile will be available on iOS and Android.
