Nintendo Expect The Switch 2 To Sell 15 Million Units This Fiscal Year

As part of today’s quarterly financial report from Nintendo, they’ve not only updated their lifetime sales figures for some of their biggest Switch releases, but have also forecast ahead what they anticipate for the next financial year. They estimate that the fiscal year will see the Nintendo Switch 2 sell 15 million units in console sales, along with 45 million units of hardware/game sales. This would make it perhaps the fastest-selling console ever, as industry analysts have predicted.

Some believe this may be a somewhat conservative estimate, as those same analysts believe the Switch 2 could sell closer to 6-8 million units within just the first two months after launch. Nintendo’s fiscal year ends in March 2026, meaning they estimate within eight months they will sell 15 million units. With such giant demand for the Nintendo Switch 2, along with Nintendo ensuring they’ve produced a lot of the system, we could be in for a wild time for console sales after the Switch 2 releases on June 5.

The Switch line of systems has been overwhelmingly successful for Nintendo, with the first Switch soon expected to overtake the Nintendo DS’ lifetime sales.

Nintendo also updated the lifetime sales total of the original Nintendo Switch, which has now sold 152.12 million units, getting ever closer to overtaking the Nintendo DS’ 154 million units lifetime sales total. Once the Switch overtakes the DS, it will be the second best-selling of any video game console of all time, only behind the PlayStation 2. Even that still seems realistic to eventually overtake, especially if Nintendo keep pushing the Switch as a less powerful, budget gaming option.

How many Switch 2 consoles do you expect to see flying off the shelves in the months after its launch? Do you think the 15 million sales forecast is accurate, or is Nintendo being humble?
