Arrowhead Chief Creative Officer Reveals What’s Next For The Helldivers 2 Developer

There’s no denying just how big Helldivers 2 is. The co-op shooter has sold well over 12 million copies, but developer Arrowhead Studios has no intentions of stopping there. The studio has set its sights on its next big ambition – becoming the next Blizzard Entertainment or FromSoftware.

We first learned about the company’s new major goal during an interview with GameIndustry.biz where Arrowhead’s former CEO and now Chief Creative Officer, Johan Pilestedt, as well as new CEO, Shams Jorjani, reveal what’s next for the company. To get a major question out of the way, both Pilestedt and Jorjani insist that they have no intentions of selling Arrowhead Studios, but they do have ambitions of reaching the level of critical and commercial acclaim as World of Warcraft developer Blizzard, and Elden Ring developer FromSoftware.

In the interview, Johan Pilestedt states that “we pride ourselves on being an independent studio,” adding “we have to see what the future holds, but there’s nothing in the plans where we want to be acquired by somebody. I want to see how high we can fly. And bringing Shams on board, we have a good potential to realize that future of turning into the next From Software or Blizzard.”

To expand upon this, Shams Jorjani followed “the goal of the studio is to make really great co-op games. We really want to turn Arrowhead into a flagship studio, where people who want to make these kind-of games say to themselves: ‘I want to work at Arrowhead.’ When we were growing up, we really wanted to work at Blizzard, it was one of the bucket list places to work at. I think Arrowhead has the potential to be that.”

It’s great that there are big plans for Arrowhead Studios, and we can’t wait to see what happens after Helldivers 2. However, let’s just hope that with their next project, a debacle such as Sony requiring a PlayStation Network account doesn’t happen again.
