Everybody act surprised! Ubisoft has officially showcased the next Assassin’s Creed game, and it’s a return to the series’ roots. A cinematic premiere trailer has been shared, as well as game details on the store page. Assassin’s Creed Mirage aims to take players back to the beloved gameplay focus of parkour, stealth, and blending into the crowd. Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be releasing in 2023 for PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
As for plot details, the game is set in Baghdad and follows Basim Ibn Ishaq, a member of the Hidden Ones who was first introduced in Assassins’s Creed Valhalla. Mirage takes place before Valhalla, telling the story of Basim as a thief making a name for himself on the streets of ninth century Baghdad. The first trailer can be seen here:
A return to the roots will surely be a welcome one for fans of the older Assassin’s Creed formula. The series had a major shake-up with Assassin’s Creed Origins, which added RPG elements and a heavier open world focus. This game strips away some of the customisation of an RPG, such as the character’s gender, in favor of a more focused and story-led adventure.
The Ubisoft Store has listed a variety of editions for Assassin’s Creed Mirage. A deluxe edition of the game will also be coming, featuring the game and additional content, such as the ‘Forty Thieves’ bonus quest. The Collector’s Case edition comes with the game, a Basim figure, replica brooch, an exclusive steelbook and more.
