Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Multiplayer Alpha Pre-Loading is Open Now

The alpha for Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available to preload on the PS4 today. It’ll go live tomorrow at 6pm GMT (September 18), and conclude on September 20 (this Sunday). Serving as a multiplayer alpha, it contains three 6v6 modes on two maps, including Domination, and 12v12 Combined Arms.

The alpha will be free for all PS4 players without the need for a subscription to PlayStation Plus, and is also PS4-exclusive, thanks to Activision’s partnership with Sony. Check out the alpha trailer below.

Starting next month, the Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War beta will go live across two exclusive weekends. Starting October 8, early access to the beta will be granted for all who have pre-ordered the game on the PS4. Standard open beta access will go live for everyone else on the PS4 on October 10. The first weekend will conclude on October 12. Then there will be a cross-play weekend, running between October 15 to 19. The beta will resume with those who have the Xbox and PC versions pre-ordered being granted access, followed by open beta access for everyone on October 17.

Yesterday, as part of Sony’s latest PS5 showcase event, an exclusive four minute gameplay trailer for Black Ops Cold War was released online. To summarize the proceedings from the clip, a mission at a Turkish airport runway goes awry following a botched assassination. There’s a big gunfight, chase across the runway, and a detonating RC-XD.

In other promising news, according to a job posting from Activision (since filled), a mobile version of Warzone (abbreviated to WZM) may be on the way soon. The posting requested an executive producer for features. The successful applicant would “own product framing and player experience of a new AAA mobile FPS in the Call of Duty franchise,”

Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will be released on November 13, 2020, across the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
