A brain teaser that challenges gamers to identify iconic game characters has shown that Kirby may be the most recognizable mascot of all.
Tech recycling experts, Computer Disposals Limited, recently premiered the brain teaser which challenges gamers to identify 15 classic video game characters (or groups of characters) using only colorful block images. The brain teaser, which was designed to celebrate decades of classic gaming and the upcoming new generation of consoles, featured characters including Link from The Legend of Zelda, a Goomba from Super Mario, Ryu from Street Fighter, and the entire primary team of heroes from the Star Fox series. How many did you recognize?
Computer Disposals Limited surveyed 1,000 people in order to see how many of them could properly identify the characters pictured. Of these 1,000, only 40% correctly identified all 15 characters or groups correctly. Characters which frequently tripped people up were Simon Belmont from Castlevania, Rayman from the Rayman series, and even the surprisingly deceptive solid yellow square which turned out to be Pac-Man, gluttonous hero of the classic arcade title.
One character was correctly identified by 90% of participants – almost everyone who took the quiz. This was none other than Kirby, the adorable and always-hungry pink puffball who is the star of his titular series. Kirby, who was the very first character shown in the brain teaser, is highly recognizable due to his small size and trademark pale pink color scheme paired with darker pink feet.
Based on these results, the team at Computer Disposals Limited have crowned Kirby the most recognizable classic video game character of all time. Congratulations, Kirby!
