Breath of The Wild: How To Buy And Upgrade A House

Link has had a few homes throughout his many incarnations and adventures, but The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild is the first game in which you need to actually save up your Rupees to invest in a permanent house. While you won’t miss out if you choose to stay homeless for the entire adventure, you’re likely to spend so much time in this vast, open world that having a place to call your own will be a welcome way to relax.

Using the powers of the Sheikah Slate, Link can do some rudimentary building on his own, but nothing on the level of a proper house. Perhaps that will change with his new powers in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, but just like in real life, if you want a good home you’re going to have to pay for it – and this guide will tell you how!

How To Buy And Upgrade A House In Breath of The Wild

Breath of The Wild house

While there are many villages you can visit in Breath of The Wild, only one seems to have a home for sale. That lone property is in Hateno Village in the West Necluda region. Head over the bridge near a set of homes under construction and locate the building crew tearing down a house. Don’t let that perfectly salvageable home go to waste! Talk to Bolson and offer to purchase the house.

While the initial asking price might make your head spin, fear not. Simply agree to the ludicrous price and Bolson will take pity on you and bring the price down to 3,000 Rupees, plus 30 bundles of wood. The wood should be no problem to collect with all the trees nearby, but the Rupees could take some time if you haven’t been saving up for this home purchase. You can earn Rupees by playing mini-games, defeating mini-bosses, and searching for treasure.

After paying up, you will have a brand new home all to yourself! You can go inside and explore the small abode, and even place a prized weapon on the installed Weapon Mount on the wall to show it off. Still, like any new home, this place can certainly do with some work. If you talk to Bolson again, you can hire him to install various upgrades. His initial asking price for upgrades is even more than the house itself at 5,000 Rupees, but he will again take pity and cut his costs to a far more affordable 100 Rupees per upgrade. Here are all the new features you can pay Bolson to add to your home:

  • Two extra Weapon Mounts
  • Three Bow Mounts
  • Three Shield Mounts
  • Bed Installation
  • Lighting Installations
  • Door Installation
  • A Sign with Link’s Name
  • A Flowerbed
  • Trees

In total, getting all the upgrades will run you an additional 1,400 Rupees, but as one final gift from Bolson, he will add in some extra decor and furniture to really pull your house together. Once complete, you can use the bed to sleep and fully restore your health free of charge!

Completing all the upgrades will also complete the Hylian Homeowner side quest!
