Following the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, gamers flocked to the title in numbers higher than any Call of Duty game in history. However, as time passed and more content was released, developers quickly realized that what goes up must also come down. According to SteamDB, the game’s release saw 313,313 concurrent players. As of the January 28th release of Season Two, only 84,052 players remain active.
For gamers, the reasons behind the drop-off varied significantly, but most cited connection issues and the use of AI as the primary causes of their departure. Season Two of Black Ops 6 doesn’t necessarily fix these problems, but loyal fans will find heaps of new weapons. At first, these weapons come off as nothing out of the ordinary, but their use in combat cannot be underestimated. These guns all perform well under their ideal conditions, but where they excel – or lack – is their versatility.
Cypher 091 – Assault Rifle
The Cypher is an excellent option for players looking for an assault rifle that functions well as an SMG. This weapon performs like a well-oiled machine and delivers an impressive three-round kill if players can chain headshots. If it misses headshots, it remains better than most, requiring just four rounds to kill anywhere else on the body. As for damage range, even at a distance, this weapon packs a punch with a consistent five-shot kill, regardless of attachments. Thanks to its high mobility, players can successfully outmaneuver opponents without a noticeable lapse in performance. If compared to another weapon, it would be most similar to the Tanto .22. As the season progresses and more players gain access to this gun, it will likely break into the Season Two meta.
PPSH-41
While this Soviet-era submachine gun is an interesting Tommy-gun-like addition to the SMG roster, its shortcomings cannot be ignored. At 10 meters, it performs as expected, eliminating targets quickly but with recoil that is extremely difficult to control without attachments. At this range, it requires only four rounds to kill with headshots and five with body shots. At 20 meters, players need to land six consecutive headshots to secure a kill, but the unpredictable recoil pattern makes this challenging. Beyond 20 meters, hitting a target becomes even more difficult, as players will likely struggle to land more than four rounds. As the season progresses, this weapon may receive a rework, but for now, it is likely to rank poorly among its fellow SMGs.
Feng 82 – Light Machine Gun
This LMG is perfect for those looking for an all-around beast of a gun. Based on the Singaporean Ultimax 100, the Feng appears to be an ordinary, slow-firing LMG at first glance. However, in combat, it delivers absurd levels of damage. In close quarters, it can shred opponents with just two headshots or three body shots. The Feng also performs well at range, with noticeable drop-off only occurring at 50 meters, where it requires one additional bullet — three to the head and four to the body. Given these impressive features, this gun will surely have a valuable place in every arsenal. Multiplayer aside, the Feng 82 also seems designed for Warzone, boasting even higher damage than the XMG, the previous heavyweight champion of LMGs. It would not be surprising if the Feng 82 becomes part of the Season Two meta.
As far as weapons are concerned in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, players can rest easy knowing that the newly added weapons perform well overall compared to those from launch and Season One. As the season progresses, many believe more weapons will be added to the sandbox, though none have been rumored or confirmed yet. The future of Season Two remains unclear for Call of Duty fans, but initially, it seems promising. With added Zombies content and the return of an improved variant of the ice elemental staff, the X91 Ice-Pike, players can be certain there is much more to Season Two than just its weapons.
