Infinity Ward has released the first campaign gameplay for Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare II as part of the Summer Game Fest 2022 Livestream. The level is called “Dark Water,” and has Task Force 141 searching for dangerous cargo aboard an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico. If the payload is not secured, the situation could escalate into a global conflict.
Most notably, Price and Garrick are absent from the gameplay as “Soap, Ghost and Mexican Special Forces Colonel Alejandro Vargas, along with Shadow Company, enter a ship full of well-armed AQ enemies to locate the controls for a missile bound for the US,” as per the description.
The team ascends onto the oil rig from the water below. With the missile preparing to launch, the objective is to neutralise the missile before it can launch from a helipad. Later, the team discovers the controls for the missile are aboard a ship away from the rig.
Speaking live from the Summer Game Fest stage, Jeff Negus, Cinematics Lead at Infinity Ward, confirmed that Modern Warfare II would introduce two new characters to the franchise: Commander Philip Graves and Mexican Special Forces Colonel Alejandro Vargas. Negus describes Vargas as “super capable” and “a guy who’s just as important as Task Force 141.”
Negus praised Infinity Ward as they discussed the creation of the level, hailing the “tremendous collaboration across all of the different disciplines.” He spoke about the game’s new water tech that creates a “physically dynamic environment,” with boats on the water and protective cover for players and enemy AI. Johanna Faries, GM at Call Of Duty, described the launch as a “transformational moment for the entire franchise.”
Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare II will launch on October 28, 2022, on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, and PC via Battle.net and Steam.
