Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Sells Over 500,000 Units In One Day

Despite launching on Microsoft’s Game Pass service, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has already sold over 500,000 copies in just a single day. After it released yesterday on April 24, the developers over on X (formerly Twitter) announced the major sales milestone, following on from the critical acclaim it launched to. This is a huge feat, especially considering the game released in the same week as the also beloved The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered

Selling over half a million units already is incredibly impressive given Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is available on both Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, meaning both gamers on PC and Xbox Series consoles can access the game without paying for it upfront. Despite that, 500,000 people in just the first 24 hours still opted to purchase the game outright, following on from its massive Metacritic Must-Play debut score of 92

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is proving to be particularly popular on Steam, as over 71,000 gamers are concurrently playing the game and rising its position in the Steam’s most-played charts. It actually hit a new peak at the time of writing, so we’re certain as we head into the weekend that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is only going to go higher. Heavily inspired by iconic Japanese RPGs like Final Fantasy and Persona, the French development team of only around 30 people at Sandfall Interactive have a big hit on their hands, both commercially and critically – and have delivered on the hype before launch that was growing around the title.
