We’ve not had much to say on the state of Concord. Initially with its reveal trailer we didn’t hate what we saw, but it became increasingly clear closer to launch that the game would be a disaster, and we think it’s safe to say it officially is. As of right now, Concord has a lower concurrent player count peak than the number of people that made the game. Yes, it’s that bad.
The launch of Concord was terrible to begin with, reaching an all-time peak of just 697 concurrent players last week. This gradually lowered, until now where the game sits at 119 players in the last 24 hours. When Sony acquired Concord developers Firewalk Studios, it had around 150 employees. This number has likely shifted and risen in the lead-up to the game’s launch, but even at bare minimum, there are less people playing the game on Steam right now than the number of people that even made it.
In the spirit of fairness we have to point out these are just the Steam player numbers from PC, so perhaps there’s millions playing on PS5 (there isn’t)! I don’t think many people expected Concord to be a particularly large success, but the degree of its failure is too big to ignore. With a content roadmap already planned out until April, we’re very interested to see exactly how long Sony will support this title, and how it will respond with its other live service plans as a result.
