Danganronpa 1, 2, V3 “Anniversary Edition” Coming to Mobile

So many beloved video game franchises are celebrating anniversaries in 2020. Previously, we’ve written about Mario turning 35 and Nier turning 10 — and partying right alongside them is Japanese murder mystery series Danganronpa, which released its first title, Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc in 2010.

Developer Spike Chunsoft has announced that “Anniversary Editions” of all three main games in the series – Trigger Happy Havoc, Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, and Danganronpa 3: Killing Harmony, will be coming to smartphones later this year. The announcement, which was made via Famitsu, did not include an official release date. It also did not feature details about what the “Anniversary Editions” would entail other than updated graphics and a new “Gallery Mode” where photos and character art can be viewed.

Previously, only Trigger Happy Havoc received a smartphone release, debuting in 2012. Spin-off titles in the series, including minigame collection Monokuma Strikes Back and billiards-like action game Unlimited Battle did come out for smartphones but was only released in Japan.

Other story-heavy Japanese titles, including the Ace Attorney franchise, have released extremely successful smartphone versions. Hopes are similarly high for Danganronpa, in which players must solve the murders of various “Ultimate” talented students trapped inside a twisted killing game. Each game in the series features several mind-boggling cases filled with proof-finding, logic-bombing action!

The Famitsu press release also announced monthly anniversary live streams and an upcoming collaboration event with survival horror game Identity V. The live streams will occur on the third Thursday of every month, beginning in May. Presumably, more details regarding both the Anniversary Editions and the Identity V collaboration will be revealed during these events. Fans are also hopeful that a brand new Danganronpa title will be announced, as the most recent title, Killing Harmony, came out in 2017.

Whatever the live streams have in store for us, one thing is for sure — we’ve got an exciting year filled with “Ultimate”-level news coming our way! So hold on to hope, don’t let despair get you, and get ready to play some Danganronpa!
