Gamescom closed out its Opening Night Live show with the long, long, long-awaited zombie action-RPG Dead Island 2. This is another game that leaked before the show, but we’re happy to see it return. The game is coming out on Feb. 3, 2023.
The game is inspired by 20th century Hollywood pulp-y B-movies, with a group of six extravagant zombie slaying playable characters. Dead Island 2 will be set in Los Angeles, a “modern paradise gone to hell”. The experience will be about experimenting in your own way and creating some crazy weapons to slay hordes of zombies.
A first look at gameplay showed the game to be as violent and gore-filled as ever. Heads are lost, things are impaled and stuff is blown up. The official website lists the platforms for the game as PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, Google Stadia and the Epic Games Store. It appears this may be an Epic Games Store PC exclusive, as the game is not listed for Steam.
It was also confirmed the game has been built from the ground up starting four years ago, suggesting the original Dead Island 2 announced in 2014 has been scrapped entirely. This may have been for the best, as the development of the game is said to have been highly troubled.
