Elden Ring Nightreign Had 2 Million Players On Launch, Despite Reception

Elden Ring Nightreign officially released yesterday, and player reception wasn’t the best. Despite being massively hyped before launch due to its Elden Ring affiliation, Elden Ring Nightreign currently sits at a ‘Mixed’ review status on Steam, with players criticising a lack of new content, communication tools and matchmaking. Despite this though, Elden Ring Nightreign officially managed to ship out over two million copies on launch day, with the official social media accounts celebrating a whole 2 million Nightfarers already exploring Limveld.

This is a quick and rapid launch, which a lot of us expected given this is an Elden Ring title! As one of the most successful and impactful games in recent memory, Elden Ring has already sold over 30 million copies in the last three years. It’s a flying start for Elden Ring Nightreign, but whether it will have the legs to last and continue its sales rise depends on how the developers respond to fan criticism, but across the beta period and now after the full release, it seems they’re listening.

The multiplayer-focused Elden Ring Nightreign had a huge launch day.

Junya Ishizaki, the director of Elden Ring Nightreign, apologized to fans for overlooking the number of people that would want to play as a duo, specifying they “neglected the duos aspect” in an interview with IGN. When playing as a pair, a third player gets added into your team via online matchmaking, a system which has caused issues for some players. However, Ishizaki did also confirm they’re exploring ways it could be addressed in the post-launch support period for the game.
