Every Thursday here on GL we share the weekly Famitsu sales charts, which tracks physical boxed game sales and hardware sales in Japan.
This week’s chart covers 12/04-12/10. As always, you can find the full list here.
This week sees Super Mario Bros. Wonder back on top, overtaking both Konami’s Momotaro Dentetsu World and Square Enix’s Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince for the number one spot, the latter of which saw a dip from last week of 85%. Switch games saw an uptick in sales across the board this week, with no one title on the list selling less than ten thousand physical units. This could be due to the holiday season, which could also explain the boost in sales for Wonder. It’s clear that Switch titles continue to be the most popular across the board, and it’ll be interesting to see which of its titles continue to remain on the list as 2023 comes to a close.
The only entry this week that isn’t a game on Switch is Final Fantasy VII Remake: Intergrade, which saw a “new price edition” release in Japan on December 7th for the PS5. A great move by Square seeing as VII Rebirth is just around the corner, so getting a bump in the series’ player base now would guarantee some extra sales come February.
Here’s the full Famitsu software sales chart for this week:
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder (Switch): 82,470 (total 1,232,981)
- Momotaro Electric Railway World (Switch): 62,488 (total 540,444)

Once again, it seems the holiday season brings with it a bump in sales for the Switch, which sees an increase of over ten thousand units sold compared to last week. The PS5 and Xbox continue along their trajectory, selling similarly to last week, while the PS4 interestingly sees a spike of more than two thousand units sold.
