Every Thursday we share the weekly Famitsu sales charts, which tracks physical boxed game sales and hardware sales in Japan. This week’s chart covers September 9 – 15, as another brand new Switch title takes number one, this week going to The Hokkaido Serial Murder Case: The Okhotsk Disappearance – Memories in Ice, Tearful Figurine. That’s a mighty big title! The graphic adventure game following a police detective sold just under 21,000 copies in its debut, giving the Switch another #1 game, as the console crosses 2 million year-to-date units sold across the three varieties of Nintendo Switch.
Despite Nintendo’s dominance in both hardware and software, Sony still has a glimmer of hope with Astro Bot, the PS5 game that debuted at #2 last week and remains in the same place this week, thanks to just a 30% drop in sales. Astro Bot sold just under 9,000 copies this week, for a total of roughly 21,500 physical sales in Japan so far. It’s not a great number, but it’s something!
