The A Hill to Die On Notorious Mark is a B-Rank monster you can hunt after starting the Riddle of the Sands main quest in Final Fantasy 16. According to the poster, numerous caravans have been attacked by a “black boulder” while passing through the Velkroy Desert in the Dhalmekian Republic. Since the game doesn’t offer other hints, you may have trouble locating this beast in the expansive dunes. Luckily, this guide will tell you the Fastitocalon’s location as well as how to beat it!
Final Fantasy 16 A Hill to Die On Hunt Guide
The Fastitocalon is located on the northeast corner of the Velkroy Desert. From a distance, you will see a massive round black rock, which will reveal itself as a turtle-like monster that will attack when you approach too close.
Although you may think a turtle-like beast would be slow, the Fastitocalon is a relatively quick opponent that can hit you with its fast-spinning attacks. The monster will sometimes stomp its massive feet on the ground. You can either dodge this attack or block the hit with Titanic Block.
The monster can also perform Water Cannon, which shoots out a series of fast-moving water projectiles that you can evade by moving sideways. Don’t try to block or dodge it backward, or you will get stun locked by the water bullets.
The Fasticotalon’s ultimate attack is called Testudo Trompe. The creature will pull its limbs into its shell and begin rapidly spinning. Besides attempting to hit you with its spinning motion, the beast will summon several geysers that explode like bombs.
At this point, focus on dodging and creating space between you and the boss. Ensure that you don’t stand on top of the glowing spots on the sand, or you will get thrown into the sky and take lots of damage.
Defeating the Fastitocalon will reward you with 1,100 XP, 65 Ability Points, 10,000 Gil, and 20 Renown. You will also obtain two pieces of Scarletite, which you can use to craft the Drakeslayer’s Belt, the Drakeslayer’s Bracelets, and the legendary sword Excalibur.
Now that you know how to find and beat A Hill to Die On Notorious Mark in Final Fantasy 16, you may try hunting other beasts on the Hunt Board. For example, try killing the Flan Prince, since this creature will drop the Gelatinous Mass you need to make the Drakeslayer’s Bracelets.
