Although it was first released in 2018, there's no question that Among Us has quickly become one of the games which defined 2020. Developed by Innersloth Studios, the game received praise for the ease of online play, which gamers could use to connect with their friends while quarantined and unable to leave the house due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Previously, Among Us was available for PC via Steam and both Android and iOS mobile devices - it even won the award for Best Mobile Game at The Game Awards this year, one of two awards it took home during the night (the other being Best Multiplayer Game.) Now, for the first time, players will be able to experience the game on Nintendo Switch console as well.

The Switch port of Among Us was presented as a surprise "but wait there's more" announcement at the end of today's Nintendo Indie World online event. The port came as a surprise to fans, who were not expecting a console version of Among Us to be released so soon.

Not only was the Switch version of the game announced today - it is also available today! Interested players can purchase Among Us via the Nintendo Switch eShop for $5 USD.

Among Us features games of four to ten players working together to set up a spaceship, research station or base on a strange planet. Crewmates must complete "tasks" in the form of mini-games, while the murderous Impostor (or Impostors) must kill the crew members one by one without being caught. The game takes cues from other "social deduction" titles such as Mafia or Town of Salem, with players voting to eject suspected Impostors from the ship or station. It has been praised for its unpredictability, fast pace and the fun and even addictive nature of the mini-game tasks.

In addition to the Switch port, the developers of Among Us recently previewed a new playable map, "The Airship," inspired by their previous Henry Stickmin games. This map is currently expected to debut sometime in 2021.
