It’s time for a new season of Fortnite, and Chapter 6 Season 1: Hunters has introduced the new adorable Sprites, along with Shrines and Boons associated with each. The game doesn’t really explain what they are or what they do, so we decided to write up this handy guide to break down what Sprites are, why they’re helpful, and what to do with them to win games and complete quests.
Let’s start with what they are. Sprites are cute creatures that wander around parts of the Fortnite map, close to Shrines. You can pick them up like items, and each does a different thing: white sprites represent air and cause updrafts when thrown, blue sprites represent water and generate healing spaces where they’re thrown, whilst brown sprites represent earth and give rewards when offered items as sacrifices.
Whilst the Sprites are useful on their own, they can be taken to Sprite Shrines to give even more rewards. Holding the interact button in front of a Shrine when carrying a Sprite will return the Sprite to its lovely stone home, and generate a bunch of loot around the Shrine – along with a Boon.
Boons are new powers players can pick up that don’t take up an item slot. When equipping a boon, you benefit from its powers for the rest of the game. The four types of boon are; Wind Boon which allows you to move faster when holding your pickaxe, Water Boon which grants health and shields to anyone in your party when swimming, Fire Boon which makes weapons reload quicker, and Void Boon which on elimination of other players reveals anyone nearby that’s still alive.
If you’re struggling to find some Sprites to return to Sprite Shrines, you can interact with a Shrine to mark nearby Sprites on your screen. This will help massively with the Kickstarter Quests that players are tasked with completing to boost their XP and level at the start of the season. We’ve compiled a map of all recorded Sprite Shrine locations that we found, along with others we’ve found commonly reported elsewhere.
