Gamescom Opening Night: New Trailer for Mafia: Definitive Edition

Developer 2K Games and publisher Hangar 13 are collaborating on one of 2020’s most anticipated remakes: Mafia: Definitive Edition, an all-new way of experiencing the classic 2002 gangland action-adventure. Fans were hoping for another look at the upcoming title during Gamescom 2020’s Opening Night livestream event, and Don Salieri and his henchmen certainly delivered!

The all-new narrative trailer showcased the remastered version of one of the series’ most pivotal scenes, in which down-on-his-luck taxi driver Tommy Angelo officially becomes a member of the Salieri crime family. Also, fans got to see a few clips of various criminal undertakings going on in the seedy underbelly of Lost Heaven City, including arson, torture, and, of course, making your enemies conveniently “disappear.”

While little gameplay was shown off during the new trailer, we did get to see a few segments of combat and what looked like Tommy riding a motorcycle through busy city streets, winding between bumper-to-bumper cars and buses. The combat sections promised that Definitive Edition would feature plenty of guns-blazing confrontations as Tommy establishes his identity as one of Lost Heaven’s most terrifying gangsters.

The original Mafia received high praise for combining an exciting narrative and compelling characters with a massive, detailed world to explore. While its sequels, Mafia II and Mafia III, have both received remastered versions, Definitive Edition represents the most extensive overhaul made to any game in the series, as well as the first remade version of the game that started it all. In addition to the updated art style, it will feature new gameplay elements, new plot beats, and more exciting secrets that have not yet been revealed.

Mafia: Definitive Edition will release on September 25 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It can also be purchased as part of the “Mafia Trilogy” alongside the remastered versions of Mafia II and III.
