Microsoft has just announced Gears of War: Reloaded, a remastered and optimized Gears of War, set to release on August 26 later this year. The remaster of one of gaming’s most iconic shooters will be coming to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and Steam, including a day one drop on either Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass. In the spirit of Microsoft’s new multi-platform approach, Gears of War: Reloaded will have full cross-play and cross-progression across each platform.
As a package, Gears of War: Reloaded contains all content from Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, which includes a bonus campaign story, all previous post-launch multiplayer maps, along with the characters and cosmetics the original DLC provided. Almost two decades since its original 2006 release, those who owned Gears of War: Ultimate Edition digitally before today’s announcement will receive a free upgrade to the new Gears of War: Reloaded, but this doesn’t apply to those who try and buy it now! Gears of War: Reloaded will be $40 on all platforms, or included in your Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass subscription.
As for what those $40 will get you, developers The Coalition are promising a full 4K resolution with HDR visuals across all modes, along with a frame rate of 60fps in the campaign mode and a whopping 120fps in multiplayer. Textures have been remastered, and loading screens are removed during the campaign, in what Microsoft is presenting as the definitive way to experience Gears of War. Following on from the success of the recent The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, it’s great to see Microsoft deliver more enhanced versions of some modern classics.
