Hollow Knight: Silksong Debuts With Over 400,000 Steam Players

As we reported earlier today, the launch of Hollow Knight: Silksong was big enough to knock out Steam’s servers, along with a bunch of other gaming platforms. However, things are calming down and Steam is active again. Now that the dust has settled, we can finally see an accurate concurrent Steam player count – and it’s enormous. Yes, on day one after just a few hours, over 400,000 people are playing Hollow Knight: Silksong all at the same time on Steam.

The original Hollow Knight is known for being one of indie gaming’s biggest success stories, with over 15 million units sold globally. The hype for Silksong has been growing for years, and it finally launching at such an affordable price point generated even more goodwill from the gaming community at large.  After years of silence, mystery and anticipation, Team Cherry and Silksong‘s gamble in their marketing approach appears to have paid off.

Despite the enormous wait for the sequel, gamers around the world were ready for Hollow Knight: Silksong.

To put this 400,000 concurrent player count into perspective, this is more than five times larger than Hollow Knight‘s peak player count of around 73,000 concurrent users which itself rose in the hype for Silksong earlier this week. More broadly, Silksong is currently the third most-played game in terms of active users on Steam today. It’s above Helldivers 2Apex Legends and even PUBG: Battlegrounds. This is an enormous feat for a single-player Metroidvania game from such a small team, and we can’t wait to see just how big it gets.
