The next game from Returnal developer Housemarque has just been announced to close out today’s PlayStation State of Play event, and it looked pretty impressive. Saros is a single-player title that continues on Housemarque’s excellent work with third-person action we last saw with Returnal. Whilst we only got a CGI teaser today, we’ll see gameplay later this year.
The trailer shows the protagonist on a strange world watch the sun disappear, as a giant monster emerges from the ground and gets ready to start a fight. It’s visually impressive, and we immediately noticed the protagonist was being played by the excellent Rahul Kohli, so we’re certainly looking forward to seeing more from Saros later this year. You can check out the reveal trailer for yourself right here.
Saros takes place on the planet of Carcosa, with a looming eclipse seemingly bringing on armageddon. Set to feature rogue-like elements, Saros will use the repeated deaths of players to reshape the world, with each additional attempt being different thanks to a permanent progression system allowing players to reassess their options, likely enhancing their strength, then trying again.
Saros will be coming to PS5 and PS5 Pro in 2026. There’s a likely chance it will eventually shift over to PC too, given Sony’s ongoing strategy to bring delayed releases of their titles to PC – including Housemarque’s own Returnal – but that’s just speculative at present.
