Jensen Ackles Wanted To Play Joel In HBO’s The Last Of Us

During an appearance on a Supernatural panel at Nashcon 2022, Jensen Ackles has revealed that he’d once been “pushing hard” for a dream role as Joel Miller in HBO’s adaptation of The Last Of Us, before Pedro Pascal was cast in the role.

Thanks to footage shared on Twitter by @citywillow, the 44-year-old actor said he’d been “really pushing hard, I don’t think I was really in the mix or even had a shot at it, but for Pedro Pascal’s role in The Last of Us. That was really high up on my radar.”

With The Last Of Us set to debut in the New Year, Pascal will play Joel alongside Bella Ramsey’s Ellie. Ackles is best known for his portrayal of Dean Winchester in Supernatural. More recently, Ackles starred as Soldier Boy in Amazon Prime’s The Boys, a role series chief Eric Kripke suggested the actor could reprise in the future. His other roles include stints in Days of Our LivesDark AngelSmallville, and Big Sky.

Away from TV, Ackles followed up the revelation with news that he would be appearing in an upcoming video game, the details of which remain unknown. Ackles confirmed on the panel that he was “about to head to LA to shoot a whole day, for a new game that’s coming out, as a character. I can’t say what it is just yet, but you’ll find out soon enough.”

The Last Of Us premieres on HBO on Jan. 15, 2023. For more The Last Of Us content, you can take a look at our review for The Last Of Us Part I. Stay with us for more at GameLuster.
