Marvel’s Avengers Brings in Hawkeye as Part of Next Gen Update

Square Enix’s Marvel’s Avengers will see its launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles, along with new Hawkeye DLC, on March 18.

Marvel’s Avengers has had a rocky journey so far, with the key Avenger being noticeably absent from the base game. Fortunately for players, Clint Barton aka. Hawkeye will finally become the game’s second playable version of the character, following Kate Bishop’s DLC late last year.

Square Enix released a War Table Deep Dive which gave fans a glimpse of Marvel’s Avengers Operation: Hawkeye – Future Imperfect. The trailer revealed that the DLC will have a rather apocalyptic setting and will deal with time travelling as the Hawkeyes meet an old man version of Barton. It was also revealed that Hawkeye’s dog Lucky will be a part of the DLC. Hawkeye will essentially pick up Kate Bishop’s mission as he endeavours on his quest to find Nick Fury. The trailer also revealed a new in-game villain, Maestro who made his debut in the Hulk comic series, also called Future Imperfect. Maestro is essentially a twisted, dystopian version of the Hulk, who was driven insane by the loss and devastation from the Kree nuclear war.

The trailer says that: “The wastelands of our Future Imperfect story are heavily inspired by the Old Man Hawkeye series, especially the ‘Eye for an Eye’ collection.”

It appears that Hawkeye will be both an efficient ranged and melee hero as Square Enix took inspiration from his Ronin period with the sword. Barton’s Hawkeye will have various skills such as Quickdraw Reflexes and the Dead Eye Skill. He will also have 10 different unique arrow types including Grapple Arrows, Boomerang Arrows, Tripwire Shots, Rocket Arrows, and Nightstorm Arrows.

Next gen players who own the game on current-gen consoles will be able to get a free upgrade as well as transfer their saves across to the new console.

Marvel’s Avengers is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions available next month.
