Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has an official release date – and confirmed a recent leak that the sequel would arrive in fall 2023. As outlined in a PlayStation blog post, it was confirmed the sequel to the 2018 title would debut on the PS5 by the end of next year. Bryan Inthihar, the creative director at Insomniac Games, released a statement reflecting on the past year, and praised the team for their efforts.
Inthihar said they had “been in absolute awe of the work of our peers. Congrats to everyone on a successful 2022… and here’s to next year being just as exciting as we continue to get Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 ready for release next fall.”
There we have it. The long-awaited sequel has a release window. Set after the events of both Marvel’s Spider-Man (2018) and the Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales follow-up in 2020, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 sees the return of the two web-swinging heroes in what the blog post describes as “the next blockbuster action chapter” from the series.
The first suggestions of a fall release date surfaced online after a writer with Insomniac Games accidentally confirmed the sequel was scheduled for a fall release. In response to the official announcement, the gaming community have shared their excitement on social media. There have been messages of praise and gratitude, questions of when we’ll receive a trailer, and, of course, memes of Tobey Maguire, Bill Murray, and Jeff Goldblum to name a few.
The finer details of the sequel, from the plot to casting information remain under wraps (or webs, no?…okay), but once we know more, you’ll know more. It has been a good week for Spider-Man fans, also getting themselves the first full trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which we broke down over on FlickLuster.
