Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered Is Steam Deck Verified

With just over a week to go until its August 12 release date, Insomniac Games has confirmed that Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered has been officially Steam Deck verified. To clarify the term: if a game is Steam Deck verified, it means the title has been deemed playable by Valve after testing without any additional tweaks before booting up the game. Verified is the first and highest of four testing categories for Steam Deck compatibility.

In the case of Spider-Man Remastered, the game needed to pass four compatibility checks. The first of these checks is input, which requires the game to “have full controller support, use appropriate controller input icons, and automatically bring up the on-screen keyboard when needed.”

Next is seamlessness, for which the game should not “display any compatibility warnings,” and if a title requires a launcher, it “should be navigable with a controller.” System support comes in third: if the game in question is running through Proton, the title and middleware will need to be supported by Proton, including anti-cheat support. The fourth and final criteria is display. A game is required to “support the default resolution of Steam Deck (1280×800 or 1280×720), have good default settings, and text should be legible.”

The four categories for Deck compatibility are Verified, playable (the game requires some manual tweaking), unsupported (currently not functional), and unknown (compatibility not tested). Other games recently verified by Steam Deck include StrayElden RingProject ZomboidStardew ValleyPhasmophobiaDying Light, and No Man’s Sky.

Marvel’s Spider-Man on PC will launch on August 12, and is available to pre-purchase now on Steam and the Epic Games Store. The original Spider-Man is available on the PS4, with a remastered port of the game available for PS5. Spider-Man: Miles Morales is available on the PS4 and PS5, with Spider-Man 2, a sequel to the 2018 game, launching exclusively on PS5 in 2023.
