Media Molecule Ending Dreams Live Support This Year

Media Molecule has confirmed that it will soon be end live support of its popular games creation system Dreams. In an official blog post it clarifies that come Sept. 1, updates for the game will officially cease and community events will not be held.

The developer made sure to clarify that the game itself will still be available for players to use after September. “Whilst we’ve always had the desire to build on the foundation of Dreams and expand the experience, when reviewing our plans we were not able to define a sustainable path. We made the decision to change the studio product strategy,” a section of the post reads.

Official support for the game-making Dreams ends this September.

Media Molecule also confirmed that it will bringing DreamsCom, All Hallows’ Dreams, and the Impy Awards, events all revolving around the showcase of games developed in Dreams, to an end as well as part of the decision. The company has apparently made the decision as a means to shift its focus toward an entirely new project completely unrelated to Dreams. Details on this project have not been shared at this time.

The studio will continue to support Dreams content by continuing to share creator projects and roundups on social media. The studio will also be migrating Dreams servers in late May to ensure everything is secure before live support ends.

However, it seems this could result in compatibility issues with regards to certain features. Most noteworthy is that users will have a limit of about 5GB of storage data after the migration, which not apply to either existing games or those made after the migration, according to the blog post.

How do you feel about the the closure of Dreams? What kind of projects have made on the platform and what are your plans after live service ends?  Let us know in the comments and stay tuned to GameLuster for more gaming news!
