Monster Hunter Wilds Just Became Steam’s 5th Biggest Game Ever

Yesterday saw the launch of Monster Hunter Wilds, and it sure was a big one. After just a few hours on sale, the latest from Capcom’s Monster Hunter franchise saw its player numbers reach over 1,000,000 concurrent players on Steam. It seems that the weekend is only serving to boost those numbers though – as Monster Hunter Wilds just became Steam’s fifth biggest game of all time in concurrent player count. Wow.

Just a few hours ago at the time of writing, Monster Hunter Wilds hit a new peak of 1,384,000 players – which places it above Lost Ark and makes it Steam’s fifth most played (concurrently) game of all time. It sits only below Counter-Strike 2PalworldBlack Myth: Wukong and PUBG: Battlegrounds, and there’s a realistic possibility it could even get a bit higher. This is an extraordinary feat, especially for a franchise that had a previous peak that was so much smaller. Monster Hunter World‘s all-time peak only ever landed in the 300,000s.

In spite of its poor technical performance, PC players are showing up for Monster Hunter Wilds.

Despite a lot of backlash in the Steam reviews based on poor technical performance, it seems that the new open-world gameplay and enhanced combat has millions of Steam players hooked. There’s a lot of new content in Monster Hunter Wilds, so the massive fanbase that was built over time for World seems to have turned out for the next mainline entry. If you’re new to the series yourself, we’ve got a guide on how you can get into it
