Monster Hunter Wilds Launches With Over A Million Concurrent Steam Players

It’s officially the launch day of Monster Hunter Wilds, and despite only being available for a few hours it’s already crushing records for the Monster Hunter series. Despite only just dropping, and before weekend has even began, Monster Hunter Wilds has set a new record for most consecutive Steam players on a Monster Hunter game – and it’s not even close!

Monster Hunter World set an all-time record for the series way back in August of 2018, as the seven month delayed PC release (it launched in January on consoles) opened to almost 335,000 concurrent Steam players. This is big, but Monster Hunter Wilds is monstrous, as it has launched to 1,000,000 concurrent players on PC. That peak was hit at the time of publication, but we expect it go bigger later tonight as we head into the weekend and gamers get time off work or school.

The vast open world of Monster Hunter Wilds has smashed franchise records, but is taking a heavy toll on PC hardware.

Whilst the PC launch is Monster Hunter Wilds is clearly absolutely massive, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows unfortunately. The Steam version of the game is plagued with bad reviews, with gamers going through bug issues, hardware issues and overall bad optimization of the PC release. This has been explored thoroughly by Digital Foundry, who say as a whole there’s “many issues to address”, but it’s easier to brute force the poor optimization if you have a higher end PC.
