Mouse and Keyboard support for the Xbox One is only months away according to Phil Spencer

I will admit I will never understand why some people prefer to play with a mouse and keyboard over a controller when it comes to games, this just seems like the most annoying way to play a game, but to each their own I suppose. Good news for those who prefer to play this way, according to Phil Spencer Mouse and Keyboard support is coming soon for the Xbox One.

While talking with PCGamesN about their Microsoft’s new Play Anywhere initiative, a feature that allows you to buy one copy of a game and play it without any issue between the Xbox One and Windows 10, Phil Spencer talked a bit about mouse and keyboard support for the Xbox One. He shared:

“I keep talking about it in the press and my platform team keeps shaking their head, because they… Truthfully, in our dev kit modes, now, keyboard works, mouse support is a little bit further away. I say it because I know it’s not years away, it’s more like months away, but we don’t have an exact date yet.”

Spencer continued on to talk about genre’s that more typically get played on a PC sighting real time strategy games among others as a core example. He said:

“When we enable PC and mouse on console it’ll be interesting to see how many of those creators think about running their PC and mouse-only game on console, and then this idea of Play Anywhere might get even more interesting for those guys.”

I can’t say that this a smart idea, and I don’t understand why anybody would want to use a mouse and keyboard for a game, but at least Phil Spencer and Microsoft are thinking about the game players and creating more options. Who knows, maybe this news will bring a wider variety of genre’s to the console front that were before not possible.
