New Resident Evil 8: Village Trailer Revealed During PS5 Event

Village, the eighth main title in the terrifying zombie survival series Resident Evil, was officially announced earlier this year with a tightly paced, scare-filled trailer that we’re all still talking about months after the fact. Now, yesterday’s PlayStation 5 showcase has provided gamers with another trailer to keep us awake at night. In addition to confirming that the survival horror title will be coming to the next-generation PS5 console, we got a closer look at Village’s plot – with a couple surprises along the way.

Previously, it was confirmed that Village would feature the return of Resident Evil 7 protagonist Ethan Winters. The second trailer confirms that Ethan and his wife Mia are living a peaceful life, attempting to recover from the events of the previous game, when tragedy and terror strike once again. Ethan investigates a mysterious village located deep within a frozen forest, while Mia dismisses the rumors surrounding said village as nothing more than “local tales”.

There’s definitely something beyond “local tales” going on in the village, as the second trailer shows off chanting cultists, frozen zombies, monstrous humanoids, and even a chilling stop-motion segment revealing that the dark forest has a history of swallowing up wandering children. It seems like Ethan has an even more deadly – and both literally and figuratively “chilling” – adventure ahead of him in this new Resident Evil installment.

It was previously revealed that Village will feature the return of recurring Resident Evil character Chris Redfield, who (if the trailer is anything to go by) will not be on good terms with Ethan this time around. However, the very end of the second trailer hinted at a possible second returning character who absolutely nobody was expecting. We hear a voice that definitely seems to evoke Resident Evil 4’s infamous Merchant – could the buyer and seller of “treasures” be coming back in Village?

Resident Evil: Village is currently scheduled to release in 2021. It will debut for Xbox Series X and Series S, PlayStation 5 and PC.
