Nintendo Announces The Legend of Zelda Movie Release Date For March 2027

A big new announcement just arrived via the Nintendo Today app, as the recently released news app dropped the release date of The Legend of Zelda live-action movie. The film is set to release worldwide on March 26, 2027. This will be just a few weeks after the tenth anniversary of Breath of the Wild, the biggest Zelda release of all time and the game that kicked off the lifespan of the Nintendo Switch.

It’s impressive that Nintendo are already using their newly announced Nintendo Today news app to make such a big announcement, given it only came out yesterday. The reveal comes with an image of the iconic Triforce, seemingly rusted or covered in some kind of dust. We don’t have many details about the untitled The Legend of Zelda movie, other than it’s being made with Sony Pictures, with Wes Ball set to direct and no casting reveals yet made.

The Legend of Zelda has always been one of Nintendo’s flagship franchises.

Making a live-action movie for The Legend of Zelda has always seemed like a somewhat risky move, but with Shigeru Miyamoto attached to produce the film there’s at least someone on the team to hopefully guide it towards a quality end product. It was strange to many when the Zelda movie announcement made wasn’t animated, given the blockbuster success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and questions around how classic Zelda elements like a silent Link will be conveyed in live-action.

We’ll have to wait a while longer before we get more Zelda movie news, but at least we now know when it’s coming. Are you looking forward to The Legend of Zelda movie, and how do you hope it turns out? What casting do you want to see?
