Nintendo has just announced that their upcoming live-action The Legend of Zelda movie has been delayed to May 7 in 2027, pushed back from its originally scheduled release month of March that same year. The delay will be used to “take the extra time to make the film as good as it can be” according to Miyamoto who shared the news on Nintendo’s social media accounts.
The delay also shifts the Zelda movie away from the massive video game adaptation series Sonic the Hedgehog, with its fourth entry set for a March 2027 release, along with Godzilla X Kong: Supernova. Pushing the release back to later towards the start of the summer gives The Legend of Zelda movie the old Avengers: Secret Wars release date of May 7, which itself was delayed to December 2027. It seems Hollywood has been readjusting its schedule to fit the void left behind by Avengers moving to later in the year, but now Zelda has the chance to start the 2027 summer movie season.

We know almost nothing about the mysterious The Legend of Zelda movie, other than it will be directed and produced by Wes Ball, with Miyamoto and Avi Arad serving as producers on the project too. It’s been in the works for a long time, but every day brings us closer to 2027 when the full vision of what a Zelda live action movie can be will hopefully be realized.
