We’re all waiting for news about the Switch 2, and in the build-up for the Switch 2 full reveal Direct, Nintendo has made two sad announcements for current Switch gamers. Firstly, Nintendo’s Gold Points will no longer be earnable by making purchases on the Nintendo eShop from March 25, this includes via the official Nintendo site or by redeeming digital codes of games. Secondly, the Nintendo Switch Game Voucher scheme will not continue with Switch 2 exclusive titles onwards.
These are disappointing pieces of new information, especially with how generous and consumer friendly both schemes have been. Nintendo’s Gold Points would rack up after every digital purchase or by registering the physical cartridge online, and gave players digital cash in the form of Gold Points to re-invest on the Nintendo eShop. Gold Points will still be redeemable by registering physical games that released before March 24, and continue to be redeemable until two years after a game’s original release. Gold Points you do have will expire 12 months after you earned them, and will remain valid until then.
As mentioned earlier, the Nintendo Switch Game Voucher scheme will also be coming to an end with the Switch 2. The purchasing scheme allowed gamers to buy two Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers to redeem on any eligible title, and would offer a saving when compared to buying two full price MSRP games. It was confirmed on the support page for the scheme today that these vouchers will not be eligible for Switch 2 exclusive games. The scheme will continue to exist for the base Switch though, so don’t worry about losing any you may have.
