Global interested for Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 is soaring, and Nintendo is struggling to keep up. In an official announcement post on their Japanese social media accounts that’s going viral with over 300,000 likes, Nintendo confirmed that over 2.2 million people had registered in their Japanese lottery to purchase a Nintendo Switch 2 – a number that far exceeds the amount of available stock.
Those who don’t get access to a pre-order in the first round of the lottery will automatically be entered into a second round, but Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed even this still won’t be enough to give a Switch 2 to those in their Japanese audience who have registered their interest. The interest in the Switch 2 is enormous in Japan, but it’s not the only country seeing absurd degrees of interest.
In an interview with French retail chain FNAC, Frandroid reported (and we used machine translation) that the stores were facing “historic” levels of console pre-orders in just the first weekend after European pre-orders began on April 6. The retailer specified that the combo pack featuring the Switch 2 console and Mario Kart World has an “incredible level of pre-orders”, with an additional note that “price is not a barrier” given the scale of console, accessory and game pre-orders.
Console pre-orders are selling out rapidly across Europe and Asia. With pre-orders in the United States set to begin at midnight tonight on April 24 (in the Eastern timezone), we’re sure that American stock will also struggle to meet interest.
