Nintendo Switch 2 Has Over 250 Profile Icons, And Includes Pokémon

The Nintendo Today! app on mobile has been slowly drip-feeding news about the Nintendo Switch 2, one of Nintendo’s favorite practices for delivering news. Today’s is quite a random update, but a significant one, as Nintendo has showcased the default profile icons available on Switch 2 from the first time you start up your console. The console will have 258 profile icons, which is almost double that of the original Switch at just 147 profile icons.

Perhaps most significant is the introduction of characters from the Pokémon franchise to the system, with the entire starter Pokémon line available to use as icons, alongside a generic Poké Ball icon to use as your avatar. The Switch 2 also adds new icons from Kirby, Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, Zelda, Mario and more!

The default profile icons on Nintendo Switch 2 expands the offerings available for most Nintendo franchises.

The Switch started out relatively bare-bones with its default profile icons, before expanding gradually through updates, and eventually the introduction of the Nintendo Switch Online icon creator tools. By spending their earned Platinum Points, players have been able to unlock parts of icons such as characters and frames, to mix and match and create their own icon. We imagine this will still be available on the Switch 2, but it’s nice to see the default lineup is so big, and includes Nintendo’s biggest franchise with Pokémon
