Octopath Traveler 2: How To Use Agnea’s “Dance Session” Talent

Agnea, Octopath Traveler 2’s Dancer, is a charming girl who travels around the land of Solistia hoping to become a star. Along the way, she can use her Path Action Allure to charm NPCs into coming with her. These NPCs can help her in battle by attacking, healing, buffing her and her allies or debuffing enemies. However, Agnea can also use her unique Talent, “Dance Session,” to get even more use out of these Allured companions.

Agnea’s Talent is similar to Partitio’s “Business Partners” ability. However, while the Merchant’s ability lets his allies benefit him while shopping for items, Agnea gains additional benefits when she uses any of her dance-related moves in battle. Most NPCs have a supportive ability, healing Agnea or strengthening her defenses. This guide will cover how to use Agnea’s Dance Session Talent and list a few NPCs with valuable Session abilities who are worth grabbing when you encounter them in Octopath Traveler 2.

How Does Dance Session Work?

Dance1

When Agnea Allures an NPC, they will have two abilities. The first is combat-focused, and they must be Summoned mid-battle to use it. Each NPC can be Summoned only a certain number of times, and will stop following the party once their Summons have been used up. Every character who is capable of bonding with NPCs (Partitio, Agnea, Temenos, and Ochette) can use their combat abilities.

Dance Session abilities can only be utilized by Agnea. These abilities are primarily supportive, although a few are able to damage enemies. These skills trigger only when Agnea uses one of her “Dance” skills. The following skills qualify as Dances and will trigger a Dance Session:

  • Lion Dance
  • Peacock Strut
  • Dagger Dance
  • Bewildering Grace

Whenever Agnea dances, the Allured NPC will appear beside her, either dancing, singing, or playing an instrument to trigger their Dance Session skill. There is no limit on the number of times you can use an NPC’s Dance Session skill, and they will not disappear after use. If you find an NPC with a valuable Dance Session skill, is is recommended that you keep them around for a long time.

Keep in mind that the NPC’s skill will target the same character as Agnea’s Dance does. This means that you can use Dance Sessions to heal or buff another member of your party by deliberately targeting them with Lion Dance, Peacock Strut, and Stimulate. When Bewildering Grace is used, the Session skill will target a random ally – as befits the completely random nature of the spell. Because Dagger Dance is a purely offensive skill rather than a buff, it will cause the NPC’s Session to affect Agnea herself.

Valuable Dance Session Skills to Find

Dance2

Unlike Partitio’s “Business’s Partners,” which features approximately a dozen skills shared among the game’s NPCs, Agnea will encounter a much wider skill variety. Almost every NPC in the game has a unique Dance Session skill they can use when partnering with Agnea. Whenever you enter a new town or settlement, one of the first things you should do is look for a good dance partner for Agnea!

With so many skills available, we can’t list all of them here. However, here are a few that you may find particularly useful as you journey around Solistia:

  • Calming Rhythm – Heals 500 HP and 40 SP
  • Bewildering Dance / Bewildering Ballad – Causes a random effect to occur. (Similar to Agnea’s Bewildering Grace, can increase the party’s EXP, JP, and Leaves or cause rare monsters to appear)
  • Rousing Rondo – Greatly fills the target’s Latent Power gauge.
  • All for You – Grants the target the ability to dodge 1 physical attack
  • Warring Waltz – Grants the target the ability to counter 1 physical attack
  • Sagelord’s Duet – Raises the elemental attack and elemental defense of the target for 1-3 turns

Whenever Agnea is in your active party, you should always have someone beside her with a valuable effect such as these!

Allure Tips and Tricks

Dance3

To use an NPC’s Dance Session skill to aid Agnea in battle, the Dancer will first have to use her Path Action to Allure them. Allure can only be used during the daytime, and has a percentage success chance of succeeding based on Agnea’s level. Here are a few tips for making sure you successfully Allure the NPC of your choice:

  • Always save before attempting an Allure, so you can try again
  • If you fail too many times, you can visit the nearest Tavern to restore your reputation
  • If the chance of success is too low, try farming rare monsters like Octopuff Travelers to raise Agnea’s level
  • Go around the town gathering information (using Castti, Osvald, Temenos, or Hikari). Some NPCs may provide you with helpful info that increases the Allure chances of everyone in town

With these tips, you can increase your odds of success in battle by having Agnea and her NPC partner dance together as often as possible. This will help you take on many difficult bosses and other monsters as you journey through the world of Solistia in Octopath Traveler 2.
