However, before you can do so, you must complete the “Procuring Peculiar Tomes” quest which requires you to find the tome From the Far Reaches of Hell. Once you have completed it, Al will be waiting for you upstairs in the southeastern corner of the library.
During your conversation with Al, you will learn that he needs assistance deciphering the mysterious book called From the Far Reaches of Hell. Fans of the first Octopath Traveler might recognize this as the very book that started Cyrus the Scholar’s journey! The book appears to be written in an unknown language, so Al requires your help to crack the code.
To do so, you will need to set sail on the Sundering Sea, travel to Nameless Isle, and navigate through the treacherous terrain until you reach a formidable foe known as Gigantes. Be prepared for a tough battle, as Gigantes has a 11 shield points and is resistant to most forms of attack. However, his weakness against swords, bows, fire magic, ice magic, and lightning magic should help you gain an advantage in the fight. Warriors, Hunters, Scholars, and Conjurers make great job choices for this fight.
Once you’ve defeated Gigantes, engage in a conversation with with a man named Georges Lazuli, and obtain the information “How to Decipher Unknown Languages” using Path Actions such as Hikari’s Bribe, Temenos’ Coerce, Castti’s Inquire, or Osvald’s Scrutinize. With the information in hand, return it to Al in Montwise Library and give it to him. Once you do so, a small cutscene will appear, and the quest will be completed, rewarding you with 4,500 Leaves and a Coat of Arms.
