Octopath Traveler 2 Guide: How To Find The Black Market

Octopath Traveler 2’s setting of Solistia is filled with hidden secrets. From secret jobs that can make your travelers even more powerful in battle to recruitable NPCs that can get you deals at shops, there is so much to discover in this expansive HD-2D RPG from Square Enix. If you’re playing Octopath Traveler 2, you should definitely explore beyond the stories of the main Travelers to find what else Solistia has to offer.

One of Solistia’s most well-hidden secrets is the Black Market, a hidden area where players can purchase a variety of powerful weapons, accessories, magic items, and more. This guide will show you how to make the Black Market appear and list some of the useful purchases that can be made there to help make your Octopath Traveler 2 party even more powerful.

Find The Black Market’s Location

Market1

The Black Market is located in the New Delsta Flats in the Brightlands region, on the eastern continent of Solistia. If you’re already on the eastern continent, you can head north from the populous city of New Delsta to find this area. From the Western continent, you can ride the ferry to the anchorage at Crackridge Harbor and keep heading east to reach the flats.

Explore New Delsta Flats until you find an area with several brick arches. This area is towards the eastern part of New Deslta Flats, near the entrance to the Abandned Village area. If it is daytime when you arrive, you must change it to nighttime by hitting R2 on PlayStation consoles, ZR on the Nintendo Switch, or T on PC. Because the Black Market is not entirely a legal enterprise, of course, it can only be encountered at night!

What Vendors Can Appear at the Black Market?

Market2

Each night, between one and three vendors will appear at the Black Market. However, which vendors appear can vary. There are four sets of vendors who can appear:

  • An Armor seller and an Accessory seller (Two Merchants, one wearing a feathered cap)
  • An Elemental Soulstone seller and a Bottle seller (Two Clerics wearing white hoods)
  • A Weapon seller, an Armor seller, and a Concoction Ingredient seller (Three Merchants, two standing behind tables and one beside them)
  • An Item seller (One Merchant)

If the vendor you want does not appear, you can keep pressing R2, ZR, or T to switch between day and night. Simply keep fast forwarding until your desired vendors arrive. It should not take too long, as the Black Market’s vendors rotate regularly. Sometimes, non-vendor NPCs can show up, with items that you can Entreat (using Agnea the Dancer) or Mug (using Osvald the Scholar). However, their appearance is random.

There are plenty of valuable items for sale at the Black Market. Elemental Soulstones are powerful offensive magic items that are also needed to unlock some of the Inventor job’s skills. Accessories provide stat boosts, while Weapons and Armor can make your characters more powerful in battle. Bottles can inflict detrimental status effects on enemies, while Concoction Ingredients are used by Castti the Apothecary to create a variety of brews used for both healing and harming.

In general, the items at the Black Market, though expensive, are quite valuable and worth purchasing. (Although the Shady Grapes and Shady Plums that the Item vendor sells are somewhat suspicious, as they come with some less-than-desirable side effects.) While you’re exploring Solistia, you should definitely give the Black Market a visit!
