Octopath Traveler 2: How to Complete A Tower of Trials Side Story

Octopath Traveler 2 is a turn-based role-playing game developed by Square Enix. The game offers eight main stories as well as several side stories. One of many side stories in the game is the Tower of Trials. This side story is only available after you have completed Hikari’s entire story.

The Tower of Trials is a tower that consists of five floors. Each floor has a different trial that you must complete. If you manage to complete all five trials, you will be rewarded with a powerful item. In this article, we will show you how to access the Tower of Trials and how to complete all five trials. We will also reveal the reward that you will receive for completing this tricky quest.

How to Complete “A Tower of Trials” Side Story

A Trail of Tower Side story

The Tower of Trials’ side story can only be started after completing Hikari’s story. To begin this side story, one must visit the Five-Tiered-Tower located in the city of Ku, Hinoeuma. Upon entry, a Guide will  provide a warning: only the mightiest of heroes may successfully complete this perilous trial. So if you feel up to the challenge, take your next step into the Tower!

1st Floor

Gken

Upon accepting the challenge and agreeing that you are ready, you will begin a series of battles. Your initial task is to confront Gken on the first floor, who will measure whether or not you have what it takes to continue down the trail.

Gken
  • Stats:
    • HP: 30,000
    • Shield Points: 6
    • Weaknesses: Dagger, Bow, and Ice

Gken is a formidable opponent that presents a range of challenges; particularly its multi-target skill, Purple Lightning. This attack includes a lightning strike on the full party, which has the potential to cause unconsciousness. He also has a special ability, Fluid Stance, which grants Reflect for the next five Elemental attacks.

2nd Floor

Ichchadhari

Upon defeating Gken, the next challenge awaits on the second floor. This floor will introduce you to Ichchadhari, the Snake Charmer boss, and her summons, Ivory Snakes

Ichchadhari, the Snake Charmer
  • Stats:
    • HP: 85,000
    • Shield Points: 8
    • Weaknesses: Polearm, Dagger, Bow, and Dark

 Ivory Snakes

  • Stats:
    • HP: 22,000
    • Shield Points: 4
    • Weaknesses: Sword, Axe, Ice, and Light

Ichchadhari and her partner, Ivory Snakes, are formidable opponents. Compared to Gken on the first floor, this boss battle requires greater strategy. In order to win a fight against Ichchadhari, it is in your best interest to neutralize her summons as soon as possible – since they each have only four shield points, this should be easily achievable. She does not possess great offensive abilities and instead relies on her summoned snakes for support. So, it’s best to eliminate her summons first.

She has four special attacks that you should be mindful of. Paralyzing Fang causes unconsciousness to a single target. Enfeebling Fang deals damage and lowers physical defense for the next three turns. Snake Session inflicts Blindness on a target, while Twin Snake Spin can drain large amounts of SP from its victim. Be sure to keep these techniques in mind when facing this serpentine foe!

3rd Floor

Tyran

Defeating Gken and Ichchadhari, who reside on the first and second floors respectively, will take you to face an even greater challenge — Tyran the Seeker, who awaits on the third floor. You can restore your health, strength, and energy before venturing to the third floor. It’s not necessary that you must defeat all of the bosses consecutively; take a breather and heal yourself first! Move forward when you are ready.

Tyran the Seeker
  • Stats:
    • HP: 100,000
    • Shield Points: 8
    • Weaknesses: Sword, Bow, Fire, and Dark

Tyran the Seeker should be relatively easy to defeat. Strengthen your party’s physical defense and reduce his physical attack to mitigate the damage he can do. With this strategy, you should have no problem taking him down. When Tyran has less than 50% of his health remaining, his Shield points will increase to 10. When his health drops below 25%, he is highly dangerous and launches a series of powerful physical attacks. Hikari’s Limb for Limb ability can be a great asset in the fight against him.

4th Floor

Audnvarg 4th Floor boss

The next level presents a formidable challenge in the form of Auðnvarg. Keep in mind that taking the time to rest and heal will be necessary for facing formidable opponents like Auðnvarg. You’ll need to make sure you and your party members are properly equipped with durable armor so that you are well-prepared for your next challenge.

Auðnvarg
  • Stats:
    • HP: 100,000
    • Shield Points: 9
    • Weaknesses (Phase 1)Axe, Bow, Fire, and Light
    • Weaknesses (Phase 2): Sword, Staff, Lightning, and Wind

Auðnvarg has a formidable arsenal of defense mechanisms. With 9 shield points and 100,000 HP, this battle is sure to be intense. When the fighting begins, Auðnvarg will use Beastly Diet and consume one of the party members at the start of the fight, which will remove the remember from your party until you break his Shields.

To succeed in this challenge, a distinct strategy and sharp wit are required. As his health decreases below 50%, Auðnvarg uses the Observe skill, which raises  hisshield points from 8 to 11 and changes his weaknesses from Axe, Bow, Fire, and Light to Sword, Staff, Lightning, and Wind. In order to bring your opponent down, you must use strategies like Hikari’s “Limb for Limb” skill, which can break his shield. Furthermore, at least one person in your party must have the ability to heal others constantly during the fight, as this boss can do upwards of 1000 damage per attack.

5th Floor

Priestess Hinoekagura

Congratulations on your successful journey through the tower – you have finally reached the fifth and final floor! Your skillful battling has earned you this accomplishment, and for that, we offer our heartiest congratulations. But now, you must prepare yourself for one of the toughest battles that you are going to fight. You are going to face off against Priestess Hinoekagura, the most formidable of all foes within the tower.

Priestess Hinoekagura
  • Stats:
    • HP: 200,000
    • Shield Points: 7
    • Weaknesses (Phase 1)Polearm, Bow, Ice, and Dark
    • Weaknesses (Phase 2): Axe, Staff, Wind, and Light

Conquering the final opponent is going to take skill. With 200,000 hit points, she’s far stronger than the previous boss. Her area of vulnerability is her seven shield points, which you can break with relative ease. In the first phase of the battle, she is weak to the Polearm, Bow, Ice, and Dark attacks, while in the second phase, she is weak to Axe, Staff, Wind, and Light.

Priestess Hinoekagura 2nd form

She may have only seven shield points, but don’t let the number fool you. She has an SP-draining ability that drains  all your party members, meaning that you’ll need to closely and carefully manage the healing and SP of each member if you want to stay in the competition. Employ your strongest abilities to defeat Priestess Hinoekagura. Try using the special moves that Hikari has acquired, such as Wild Smash, Frenzied Fire, and Spearfishing, for maximum impact.

Upon successfully overcoming all of the challenges in the tower and defeating the final boss, players will have completed the side story ‘A Tower of Trials.‘ As a reward for their efforts, they will receive a license for the Conjurer job.
