PlayStation Stars Loyalty Program Is Closing After Less Than Three Years

Despite being less than three years old, Sony just announced their plans to end their PlayStation Stars loyalty programme they first launched in the US and Europe back in October 2022. Over on the official PlayStation Blog, Sony say that they have “learned a lot” from the program and have “decided to refocus our efforts”, leading to them winding down the program. PlayStation Stars will close in steps, which we’ll break down here.

Firstly, PlayStation Stars is no longer accepting new members. For those who are members, you can still earn Digital Collectibles, Points and level up until July 23, after which there will be no new campaigns or earnable rewards. From there, PlayStation Stars will have no newly added content but will remain online for point redemption until November 2 2026, after which all points will become irredeemable and the PlayStation Stars program will be entirely shut down. Despite this, Sony say fans will still be able to access their Digital Collectibles.

Digital collectibles were 3D models awarded to fans for completing missions in the PlayStation Stars program.

Going forwards, Sony say they will “explore new ways to evolve our loyalty program efforts in future”, and also state they have “various community activities” already planned. Whilst PlayStation Stars wasn’t particularly popular, it was always a nice surprise to gradually build up your points and then realize you have enough to redeem a cash voucher for the PlayStation Store. It might not have been much, but it was better than nothing. Time will tell what Sony has in store for PlayStation gamers to reward their repeated business in future.
