A new psychological horror title, Anthology of Fear, has been announced for PC and the Nintendo Switch.
The game comes from publisher Ultimate Games and developer RG Crew. Anthology of Fear is a first-person horror game with three unique and unrelated stories that will take place at different time periods. The stories will also have their own distinct gameplay elements.
“Each of the three stories are different – of course there also different characters, time periods, and so on,” stated director and chief designer Hubert Zatorski in a press release (via Gematsu). “The player thus receives three smaller games in one. Each of the will provide different experiences. Our game will be diverse and ambiguous. It won’t be any problem for fans of the series Silent Hill and Outlast to find themselves in Anthology of Fear. The same goes for titles in the style of Layers of Fear, Alan Wake, or even Hunt: Showdown.”
According to Anthology of Fear’s Steam page, players will take control of three different heroes. They will experience the horror of the early twentieth century in Russia, contemporary drama taking place in an ordinary house, and unreal events between shreds of reality. Each episode will have a different set of features, as players struggle for their own existence. The page also states that Anthology of Fear will not rely on simple jumpscares to terrify gamers. Rather, the mood of the game will be built by the atmosphere. A trailer was released for Anthology of Fear (seen below), showcasing the title’s twisted and disturbing atmosphere.
Anthology of Fear will release in Q1 2020 for PC. The game will then make its way over to the Nintendo Switch a few months later.
