People have been waiting for a sequel of Psychonauts for some time, the Game Awards brought the surprise announcement that a sequel in in the works, however this game will be achieved via crowdfunding. Tim Schafer thanked the fans for always wanting a sequel, and has thanked everyone who backs the game in its crowdfunding campaign.
For Psychonauts 2 the studio has opted to use a new crowdfunding service called Fig that will allow those who back it to earn some money on it if it makes money. The game is targeting a goal $3,000,000 which I think could be pretty feasible you can see the trailer as well as Pitch Video below:
