Resident Evil 4 Remake: How To Get And Use The Cubic Device

Have you been coming across locked puzzle boxes with oddly shaped keyholes in Resident Evil 4 Remake, and didn’t quite know what to make of them? Well, those are Square Lock Boxes, and they require a Cubic Device in order to crack them wide open. The treasures held within will come in handy both for combat, and trading with the Merchant. This guide will cover how to obtain this device in Resident Evil 4 Remake.

How To Get The Cubic Device In Resident Evil 4 Remake

The Cubic Device can be found contained within a simple chest placed in an L-shaped corridor that connects the Armory to the north with the Grand Hall to the south. In Chapter 9, after dropping down into the Armory, acquiring the Lion Head, and dispatching all opposition, have Ashley descend down as well. Coordinate pulling the tail levers on the two jousting knight statues, which will raise their lances and the heavy gate. Go through and then right, and there’s the chest sitting in plain sight in the corner!

Guide To Use The Cubic Device In Resident Evil 4 Remake

As for using the Cubic Device itself–it is rotatable, and you will have to turn it over until you can match the placement of the notches and grooves in the face closest to you, with the protrusions and tabs in the Square Lock Box seen in the background of the puzzle. Press Confirm, the Device will slide right in, and you’re done. Then, claim your prize!

For such an interesting mechanic, there are disappointingly only five Square Lock Boxes that can be opened with this device. Here is what can be obtained from each of them, as well as their Peseta value:

  • Chapter 9 [Grand Hall]: A Butterfly Lamp is in this box, and it can be sold for 6000 Pesetas base value – more if you add Gemstones. Requires backtracking after you get the Cubic Device.
  • Chapter 9 [Audience Chamber]: This box contains a Justitia Statue valued at 12000 Pesetas. Requires backtracking after you get the Cubic Device.
  • Chapter 10 [Library]: Has the CQBR Assault Rifle, a weapon priced at a base 6000 Pesetas.
  • Chapter 10 [North of the Library]: Holds the Golden Lynx Statue that goes for 12000 Pesetas.
  • Chapter 12 [Throne Room]: This final Square Lock Box has the Gold Chicken Egg that sells for 9000 Pesetas–but don’t do it! There’s a much better use!

It’s important to note that progressing into Chapter 12 is the point of no return for collecting the Cubic Device, as well as the first four Square Lock Boxes. Once its utility has been exhausted, the Cubic Device itself will become salable as well, at the Merchant. There is indeed no reason to hold on to it further, and the Pesetas gained will come in handy.

And that wraps up this guide on the Cubic Device. Be sure to check out our other Resident Evil 4 Remake guides, and don’t hesitate to comment below, if there’s something you’d like covered. And hold on to that Gold Chicken Egg!
