Serious Sam 4 Confirms Release Date

Croteam’s Serious Sam 4 was one of the most unexpected announcements during July’s all-digital Devolver Direct event. The first-person shooter, which will be releasing for both Steam and Stadia, will be the first main series Serious Sam title released since 2011. Sam fans have had to content themselves with spinoffs, including The Greek Encounter, Bogus Detour, I Hate Running Backwards, and the VR-based The Last Hope.

Serious Sam 4 will serve as a prequel to 2011’s Serious Sam 3: BFE, and will once again feature titular protagonist Sam “Serious” Stone using the extensive (and occasionally ridiculous) arsenal of weapons at his disposal to take on his most deadly foe, the evil overlord Mental. The game’s first trailer showed a horde of flying, hopping, screaming, and running enemies bearing down on Serious, including the airborne Bio-Mechanoid, various voracious Gnaar, and, of course, the series’ most recognizable (and terrifying) enemy, the unstoppable Beheaded Kamikaze.

During the Devolver Direct, Serious Sam 4 was announced to be releasing sometime in August, with no specific date confirmed. However, a tweet from the official Serious Sam Twitter account (@SeriousSamIAm) has finally announced an official date — although, one that comes with a slight delay.

The video features a Beheaded Kamikaze ramming through the word “AUGUST” before then running into the words “SEPTEMBER 24” before finally exploding. The end of the video then confirms that September 24 is the game’s official release date. Additionally, it includes the tagline “For Real This Time,” indicating that the game is not anticipated to be delayed any further following this announcement.

Fans interested in a console version of Serious Sam 4 will have to wait a little bit longer, as any console releases are not expected to drop until 2021.
