Slime Rancher 2 Sells Over 300k In Less Than A Week

The adorable Slime Rancher series has reached new heights, as Slime Rancher 2 has sold over 300,000 copies in less than one week. The announcement was posted on Twitter by director of Slime Rancher and Monomi Park CEO, Nick Popovich. He also shares that the game has a 95% positive score on Steam, which comes from over 6,000 reviews.

Popovich shared his “pipe dream” last week, which was reaching 100k sales in a day. The game sold more than this in just six hours after release on Sept. 22, and it seems now that the sales momentum kept up. It’s easy to see why a game like Slime Rancher 2 is successful, which combines the popular life-sim genre with a colorful, slime-filled farming adventure. Plus, the slimes are just so cute.

Just two weeks ago, we received a sales update on the original Slime Rancher. This first title has sold more than six million copies after its official release on PC and Xbox One back in 2017. Since then, the game expanded its audience to PlayStation 4 in 2018 and Nintendo Switch in 2021. This should give players of those consoles some hope for the future, as Slime Rancher 2 is once again only available on PC and Xbox Series X/S consoles at present.

Despite how great this success is for Slime Rancher 2, the best part of the announcement has to be the lack of crunch. The gaming industry has been under a lot of criticism in recent years for the amount of crunch that workers have been put through for big game releases. Crunch is compulsory overtime in the gaming industry, which is often uncompensated. Developers at many big gaming studios have spoken about how crunch negatively affects the mental and physical health of their teams. We’re very glad that Slime Rancher 2 found its success without risking worker safety.
