Sony Raising PS5 Price Across Europe, Australia And New Zealand

Sony has announced price hikes to its PlayStation 5 consoles taking place across parts of the world – but not yet including the Americas or Asia. Specifically, the markets seeing price hikes are Europe, the UK, select Middle East and African markets, Australia and New Zealand. These price bumps raise the cost of the system by anywhere between 10-15% based on the region. For an example, the price of the PS5 Digital Edition is increasing from £389.99 to £429.99 in the United Kingdom, or from €449.99 to €499.99 in Europe.

The PS5 standard model with a disc drive will not receive a price hike in Europe or the UK, but will in Australia, New Zealand and potentially some Middle Eastern and African markets. To offset some of these costs, the standalone Disc Drive for PS5 will be receiving a price cut across these same markets. In the United Kingdom, the price will be slashed down from £99.99 to £69.99, whilst Europe will see a fall from €119.99 to €79.99.

The current global economic situation is having an astronomical impact on gaming.

Sony cite the current “economic environment” of the world as a reason for its sudden price surge. This is actually the second time the price of the PS5 has increased in some markets. They specify that “high inflation and fluctuating exchange rates” resulted in the “tough decision” to raise their recommended retail prices. It’s interesting that North American prices aren’t yet confirmed to be increasing, despite the situation surrounding the United States tariffs stance already affecting other gaming platforms such as the Nintendo Switch 2

For now, only some markets will be affected by Sony’s price hikes, but we’ll be sure to report back and update this page if any American price rises are confirmed.
